To market, to market to buy a fat pig!

Actually, no, no fat pigs at the market today. Today's market was a vegetable and fruit market. We risked the wet weather to have an explore at the Pukekohe markets. My parents who live in the area have been making a regular visit there on Saturday mornings for some time. So I decided, after all their positive feedback that I better go take a look see for myself.

The produce was in excellent condition, for some of the stall holders I wondered what time they might have gotten out of bed to pick, cut and pack their produce, it was that fresh. Every thing has there from fennel to cucumbers and yams.

If you store produce in the way it likes it will last longer. For instance, I have found that celery will last longer if you cut its base off, then trim stalks to length to fit an airtight container. Then place in the fridge.

Mushrooms store in the fridge as well. I pop them in an airtight container that I've lined with paper towel. They last so much longer this way than in the paper bag, or packaging they are purchased in.

General rule of thumb, vegetables and fruit do ot like being stored in plastic bags.
