The pleasant smell of food cooking greeted our noses before we even found our way to the car park. It had been a last minute decision meant it was a bit of a rush to get there. But the weather was perfect, well as perfect as a cold sunny winter day gets. So we all made the dash across Auckland to the French Food market.
We, seven in all milled around, each finding their own flavor of food to eat. So many choices, not all were French. There was some Turkish and some Vietnamese offerings to drool over as well. Slowly we regrouped at a large table. Observing what each other had on their plates we made a unanimous decision that we would all have to visit the market again.
As we gathered at the table all noted the poor guy who had been sitting toward one end of the table, now being overtaken by our noisy chatter and basically our personal space invading selves. Having greeted him and been greeted in return we discovered via his accent that he was French.
The typical conversation ensued. Including questions like where have you been while in New Zealand, where did you like best? I of course needed to know what food he had enjoyed the most. Turns out he had helped out at a Marae doing some roofing. While there he had enjoyed a Hangi. He had lots of pleasant things to say about the people he had met in New Zealand and our hospitality. So nice to hear that we still have that going for us. Keep it up New Zealand
